Dear Course Participants

Thank you for your contributions re module 3C, I can see that you are really engaging with us.

This week we look at Module 4 - the Planing process in stakeholder participation. Please download the notes on the group resources.

Here you will read about the different contexts in which stakeholder participation is needed. You should already be able to identify who the stakeholders are and what the key messages for each group should be. Last weeks notes also looked at how to effectively communicate.

The notes of module 4 will further go through the steps required to develop a communication plan with responsibilities, time lines and costs. As well as
how to evaluate the success of a stakeholder participation process.

Lets start with discussions on Thursday. You will have a day to go through the notes. Please let me know if additional time is required.

Regards
Oriana

Module 4

Dear all, please see the comment below from Mr Vikash. After reading the comment, you can find the document he sent on the group resources. You can download it and make comments in this forum. Lets all participate.

"Dear Oriana

Thanks for the Module 4.

After reading through the notes, I have tried putting together a hypothetical (though fairly real) case that affects Protected Areas in Mauritius - visitors leaving litter behind. There is still a long way to go to sensitize visitors on the issues linked with litter in Protected Areas.

There is a general feeling that there needs to be a 'carrot and stick' approach to solve environmental issues, since 'soft' methods have not reaped the expected results, and fines are rarely imposed. There is also the feeling that we have not gone far enough on both sets of methods, and both need to be developed and applied. Have we done enough to sensitize, or fined polluters? If we apply the methods to a greater extent, we expect better results?

As for the stakeholder participation approach, which promotes collaboration and understanding between stakeholders, does it exclude that that the law, fines, policing, restrictions etc are still applied as complementary approaches to stakeholder participation?

Regards

Vikash"

Planning is the process of

Planning is the process of making plans for something. Here one have to identify the following:
What am i planning for?
Whom am i planning for?
Which kind of event will it be?
Who will be involve?
What do i expect to be the outcome of my plans?
After knowing all this, then it is ideal that planning will be very effective and efficient for stakeholders to know about the whole process and to understand the concept of the issue at hand. As we have discussed in Module 3C its relevant we reflect that when communicating you need to know the one you are communicating to and what to communicate and which mode of communication will do well then this all come after planning. I will also say that decision making process should be well considered inorder for one to get stakeholders fully involve as we have mentioned others do without consultations but then when planning this is really needed inorder to get things work.
"In results people get is consequences of action" Plan well for better outcome.
Great going through this module. Thanks to the DLIST team.
Apologies for posting late.
