Elements of a Gender Mainstreaming Strategy: A Fourteen-point Framework

The article focuses on an effective action strategy for implementing gender mainstreaming. It considers fourteen main elements needed for a complete gender mainstreaming strategy within an organisation. these include: a clear policy; time bound strategy; human resource practices; internal tracking and monitoring capability; a central gender mainstreaming unit; a recognised network of staff responsible for gender equality; systematic on-going consultation; project management; effective monitoring and reporting mechanisms; gender analyses; relevant baseline information; consultation with the community concerned; clear reporting mechanisms; good relationships with the media; opinion leaders and decision makers.
